The VSFX90 optical effects drive can be attached to the front of the CCT Starlette Effects Projector, and has proved to be the first choice of many lighting designers around the world. The drive allows the projection of realistic effects, such as clouds, fire & snow.

A standard VSFX system comprises of the high-power effects projector with VSFX drive unit, a glass effect disc, and an objective lens. In addition, a number of accessories are available to mask the projection or alter the beam.

VSFX Drive Unit

VSFX90 Optical Effects DriveThe VSFX drive unit consists of a spun aluminium case fitted with a turntable backplate, allowing an effect to be rotated 360 degrees about the optical axis of the effects projector. The glass effect disc is fitted inside the case and is rim-driven, ensuring compatability with existing effect discs. The unit requires an independent, non-dimmed power supply, and the speed and direction can then be set using controls on the side of the casing. Alternatively the speed and direction can be set using 0-10V control signals fed in through a 4-pin XLR connector. If direct DMX512 control is required the FX/DMX accessory can be used: this bolts to the side of the VSFX housing, is powered from the VSFX drive unit and has 5-pin XLRs for DMX In and Out.

The front of the VSFX casing contains a double runner. The front runner is normally used for the objective lens, while the rear runner can contain colour filter, or accessories such as an adjustable mask - used to cut an image to a particular shape. A safety retaining spring secures the lens as the effect is rotated

Glass Effect Disc

A wide range of glass effect discs are available, a selection are shown above. The standard range of discs includes storm and fleecy clouds, flames, smoke and several new cloud designs. A wide range of more esoteric, older designs (including ghosts, planets and falling leaves) are available and custom discs can be created if required.

Objective Lens

VSFX90 LensesA lens is required to focus the moving image onto the desired projection surface. A range of lenses are available to suit different throws: please ask for guidance with selecting the correct lens.

VSFX Accessories

VSFX90 AccessoriesA wide range of accessories are available for the VSFX system. These include an adjustable mask containing four blades, which can be individually set to alter the outer shape of the projected image. This allows a projection to be cut inside a proscenium arch, or to the top of a cyclorama, for example. The adjustable mask fits behind the lens, in the rear slot of the VSFX drive unit.

A slide carrier is available that fits to the front of the effects projector in place of a VSFX drive unit, and allows the projection of 3.25" x 3.25" slides. The standard VSFX lenses can be used with the slide carrier.
