Harmonised codes for flexible mains cablesFlexible mains cables can be identified by the harmonised code, usually printed or embossed along the cable. The code consists of a number of alphanumeric characters, each group representing a different aspect of the cable. The groups identify the construction, voltage rating, and the number and size of conductors. An example code is shown below.
The possible characters in each position are outlined in the table below. It is worth remembering that not all positions may be used in a code. In the example above, the last two charcters in the second group are not utilised. This code would be printed or embossed on the cable as H07RNF3G010.
So our example above would be a harmonised cable [H], with conductors rated at 450V and jacket at 750V [07]. The conductor insulation is rubber [R] and the cable jacet is polychloroprene rubber [N]. Each conductor is constructed from fine wire [F] and so is flexible cord. The three conductors with ground conductor [3G] are each 10mm² in cross sectional area [010]. See also:
