Some elements have more than one spelling. in addition, a naming dispute has occurred between the American Chemical Society (ACS) and the International Union for Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) over elements 104-109. ACS has used the discoverer's suggested names, while IUPAC decided to leave the naming process up to a panel of 20 members. This table shows the ACS naming convention. Note that elements 113, 115, and 117 are not known, but are included in the table to show their expected positions. Elements 114, 116, and 118 have only been reported recently. |
