ADB Combo Warp: Mechanical Douser & Colour Changer System
Combo Warp Mechanical Douser & Colour Changer Designed for Warp Daylight spotlights |
The Combo Warp accessory, a DMX-controlled combined mechanical douser (or dimmer shutter) and colour changer (scroller), is designed for use with the ADB Warp Daylight series of spotlights.
Combo Warp offers a very smooth dimming movement, controlled by DMX, providing smooth fading and no light spill when closed. A linear dimming law means that the brightness is adapted to the DMX value.
A 16-bit control mode provides a high resolution drive, although fades up to two hours duration are possible. Light flashes of 0.2 seconds can also be acvhieved.
The scroller has a capacity of upto 16 colour frames and gel string movement can be set to continuous, step, or autotrace modes. The unit features two DC servo motors connected directly to the colour rollers, meaning that there is no gearbox (and hence less noise and higher reliability).
Scroll speed is variable (via a DMX control channel) from 1.5 to 20 seconds, for a full 16 frame scroll. The scroll is cooled by a single fan, which can be set to one of four preset speeds, or controlled via an additional DMX control channel.
Status LEDs indicate when the unit has power and data, and if there is a data problem.
The intuitive interface is navigated via a backlit LCD display, with easy to understand menus.

Colour Changer scrolling modes
The Combo Warp offers three modes of scroller operation:
Continuous mode
The position of the gel string is proportional to the intensity level of the DMX signal.
Step mode
The position of the gel string is divided into steps, one step per colour.
Dark colour mode
The position of a dark colour gel frame is permanently moved in slow motion. The advantage is a better heat distribution on the foil, so that the gel has a longer lifetime.
Use with ADB Warp/M spotlights
The Combo Warp needs no power supply in normal operation: each Warp/M spotlight distributes both DC power and DMX512 control signal to an attached Combo Warp unit. The Warp/M will also automatically remap the DMX values from the lighting control system to DMX address 1 on its colour scroller output connector. This has the advantage that all Combo Warp units can be set to DMX address 1.
